Vintage Live Gato Performance Finally on CD! After 30 years, Gato Barbieri's last installment in his four-part ABC/Impulse! Chapter series has finally been remastered and issued on CD. This vintage recording of Gato in performance was recorded live at The Bottom Line in New York City and originally released on vinyl in 1975.  The newly remastered recording will be released on CD September 27, 2005. Don't miss this classic! Pick up a copy at your local record store!

Ignacio "Nacho" Figueras

To any of you who may be interested, we would like to let you know about the Black Watch Polo team, which competed in Bridgehampton through August 16th. Our personal friend, Ignacio "Nacho" Figueras (shown at far right talking to Gato) is a fellow Argentine and a great polo player. He has just been chosen by RalphLauren Polo as the face of the new "Black Polo" cologne. He is a big fan of Gato's and we are very proud of his achievements.

CD reissue of Last Tango in Paris Soundtrack
Great news for anyone who has been looking for the Last Tango in Paris soundtrack on CD:   After being out of print for some time, Gato's Grammy-winning score has been re-issued on the Varese-Sarabande label.  It is now available in stores and through online vendors. The new CD appears to contain all of the same bonus tracks that the RykoDisc re-release did.  Thanks to Laura Barbieri for the heads-up - enjoy!

Jazz al Sur reprinted with Gato on the cover

Jazz history buffs, take note! Jazz al Sur, a classic book by Sergio Pujol about the history of jazz in Argentina, was out of print for some time but has just been reprinted.  And in a fitting tribute, the publishers have put a photo of Gato--one of the earliest and most prominent jazz figures from that country, and a source of national pride for Argentineans--on the cover.  The book is in Spanish (to the best of my knowledge no English translation has yet been published) and may be purchased at a bargain (~$US 13.00 + shipping) online from two of Argentina's best-known booksellers,  http://www.tematika.com.ar and http://www.cuspide.com.
